I didn’t want to hurt you with hope

The burden was a load too heavy to carry
Your smile didn't look it would hold
So I swatted you away with dispair
The pain that would last shortest
A bruise to a gash
You'll never thank me
and I know that
But even if you don't,
Know this:
I let you go because I loved you
I hurt you so you could find true love
Because as barren is the sea,
I wanted you to find your fish.
I want you to be happy
You can't have that with me
and you know that.
